Destiny is a 13-year-old activist with mocha dark brown skin. It is a perfect canvas for her black, curly hair, and it brings out her light brown eyes. For most of her life, she lived happily at home with her mom and dad in Oakland, California. Destiny went to school, had track practice and violin lessons, and spent weekends hanging out with her BFF, Keisha. In 2020, her world shifts when COVID-19 hits. Destiny and the rest of the world are forced to stay home. She is lonely and scared. What if she catches COVID? What if one of her family members gets sick or, worse, dies? Would her social life be limited to video calls forever? When Destiny thinks things couldn’t get any worse, she overhears her parents talking about a Black man being killed by the police. Now she is forced to decide: will she hold on to negative emotions or channel them into something positive? Destiny and Keisha decide to organize a “March on Oakland.”
