About the Book
Mary - "Mother of God", "Queen of Heaven", "Immaculate" - among the other titles she has garnered has ultimately become a symbol for a religion dominated by men in funny clothing. Just when women are finding their voices in the 21st Century, she is a throwback representing a world where women are supposed to be docile, domesticated, and weak. The Gospel According to Mary digs up stuff long buried: 1) Mary is Jewish, 2) Mary is aware of her lineage as grandchild of King David, and 3) lives in a time when her land is occupied by an imperialistic superpower and by proxy runs it through a paranoid pretender to the throne in Jerusalem. Given that, when offered the role of bearing the Messiah, her response "... may it be to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38) is an act of subversion to those on the throne!
Features & Details
Photographer, psychologist, pastor and uh ... pedagogue? Wanted to fit 'teacher' in there but alliteration hehe. 'Professor' is too pretentious while 'pedagogue' has some bad rep which is I do not think represent my teaching style. So there ... and I'm old and trying to retire.
