    About the Book

    Edit

This delightful memoir follows Helen's life from Staten Island to the Bronx to Southern California. It is full of folksy memories and nearly 300 photos. Her family's vacations in New Hampshire and Colorado reveal a fun family life. Helen's travels across the United States with her parents in their 1923 Franklin five times produced some historical National Park photos. There are many samples of the clothing she made having been trained on 5th Ave. in New York City. In her 30's, she turned her creativity to oil painting including still life, landscapes, barns, birds and flowers, portraits of women, and later tending toward modern. In her 60's, she took up golf, which she enjoyed for 20 years. Her love of playing Bridge extended from age 11 into her late 80's. This sweet lady's memories reveal the realities of life from a simpler time along with some exciting hiking and driving adventures. Included are stories of working on a dress for Eleanor Roosevelt and her lifelong friendship with Ralph Kiner, Hall of Fame baseball player.

    Oregon

A 4th generation Californian, I grew up in Alhambra with aching lungs from the summer smog. I went to Catholic schools in the days of the nuns wearing habits. They had EVERYTHING in their huge pockets including scissors and smelling salts, which Sr. Erminold actually used on me when I fainted at a piano recital! I graduated from UC Irvine and became a math teacher. While raising my kids, I lived in a beautiful home in San Clemente with a view of the ocean. After getting a horse, I moved to Oregon to have room for him. Horses don't fit well on a cul-de-sac in Orange County. I am now married to a man with 8 children! We have 10 total and 22 grandchildren. We live in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains where it truly seems to rain for 9 months straight, but there is no smog. I am now retired & enjoy the piano, genealogy, grandkids, and writing. The Seamstress of Jamestown was my first book, a novel, followed by a memoir of my true experience of falling in a well & the amazing rescue
