Mayor of Saskatoon, he appointed a geeky Grade 11 Nutana kid to a commission on juvenile crime and committee on racism and First Nations relations. That shaped my life: a journalism career, volunteering, community leadership and burning on my soul the need to listen and learn, consult and communicate.
